Secret Engagement

A Secret Engagement to Remember!

Last fall, we had the pleasure of photographing a secret engagement for Mario & Allegra.

Eddie and I have done secret engagements before, but when we met Mario in the fall of 2016, it was immediately evident that he was completely and totally devoted to his then girlfriend, Allegra. He brought his mom along and we quickly discovered that she was just as smitten with Allegra.

Their relationship started after many years of friendship. Mario was very patient in waiting to propose so that she could focus on grad school. When he decided to do it, we had the privilege to see their unapologetic love in full display.

We went to a serene Japanese Garden at the Hillwood Estates.

Allegra was completely surprised and in awe at her soon to be fiancé’s actions. Lance got down on one knee and Allegra immediately put her hands on her face in shock. Their love thick in the air as she said “yes” with sheer joy and eagerness in her voice.

As we took them around their favorite locations in the Washington D.C. area after the proposal, like Ben’s Next Door, the first place they met, Eddie and I were sure that these memories would last forever.

Take a peek at their story below!

Lance & Lauren

Eddie and I were thrilled about taking Lauren and Lance’s wedding photos. We did their engagement pictures around Union Market in D.C. and it was such an adventure. Part of our excitement for becoming DC wedding photographers was discovering brand new places to shoot. In New York, we always found cool sites to take photos and we were happy to do the same in D.C. They were so fun and open for anything; they forced us to push our boundaries. Including going into a sketchy corridor to get a “risqué” shot.

After that shoot, we knew that it would be one of our favorite weddings. Their personalities shine through in every one of their pictures.

Lauren and Lance got married at the Meadowlark Botanical Gardens in northern Virginia. We love the fact that we have access to so many different areas in the DMV area.. That place is beautiful and it just added to the magic of their small, intimate wedding.

They were married on a beautiful gazebo that overlooks a pond, as their best friend’s looked on lovingly. I have to admit, I did get a bit teary eyed as Lauren glanced into Lance’s eyes and repeated her vows. Their love was evident and it was felt throughout the entire ceremony. It was hard not to reflect back on our own very own small, intimate wedding day. Alas, this was their experience and it was wonderful documenting their day.

They welcomed us in and made us feel like we were always friends. This is one of those weddings that we will always remember with a smile.

Frederick, MD Wedding Photographers

As Frederick, MD wedding photographers, we love doing elopements. They’re so intimate and you really get to know the bride and groom during the planning process. Matt & Rachel were a laid back couple and looking for wedding photographers to cover their special day. It was fun getting to know them and finding out what their wedding would look like. It was a no frills kind of day, which echoed their personalities.

They didn’t let anyone in on the secret that they were going to be married, so it was an honor for us to document this day. The fact that they chose April 1st as their wedding day gave us all a good laugh at the idea of their friends thinking that it was an April Fool’s joke when they finally told them that they got married. Not a single person in their close circle, including their parents, knew that they were getting married that day. We were so surprised that they were able to keep this amazing secret!

It was a pleasure for us to be able to capture a memory that only they would have. Photos that they would be able to show their friends and family as the day that they got married. Since it was in the early days of spring, the temperature was cool and it was a soft overcast day with a little bit of sun peaking through here and there. The wedding was short and very sweet and we took them around the Capital Riverfront by the DC Navy Yard to capture some more photos. We got to get some cool, distant shots of the Washington Capital’s stadium with Matt & Rachel in the forefront. They are fans, so it was special for them.

As Frederick, MD wedding photographers, it’s fun to explore new and exciting areas to take photos. We were able to find some cool spots when we lived in New York and now we are grateful that we have access to so many places in Maryland as well as D.C. One of our times to shoot is when there is an overcast and we couldn’t ask for better lighting conditions. Cherry on top? We got some amazing photos!

Light Play

We love playing around with light. Finding different ways to light our subjects is one of the many things that we use to push our creative interest. One way you can add a dramatic effect with natural daylight is to find a window with light peaking from it. Sometimes a dramatic pose might bring it to another level, but if the light is intense enough, a simple pose could do the trick. We often just go by the feel of our clients when it comes to posing.

We had the pleasure of taking pictures at the Library of Congress in D.C. What a grand place to take photos! Our clients were dressed the the nines, which was fitting for how dramatic it is there. The library of congress is a wonderful place to find little corridor’s with beautiful light peaking through. Take a look at some of our shots in the gallery below!

Potomac Falls Engagement

I don’t know if you guys know this, but we recently moved to the D.C. area. We have been establishing our photography here as well, which has been very fun!

We had the opportunity to do an engagement shoot in beautiful potomac falls!

We have been there before, but apparently, there are two entrances. A Maryland entrance, which is the one we went to a couple of years ago and a Virginia entrance, which is where we went last month. It is absolutely beautiful there and so peaceful listening to the water falls. If you are in the area, you definitely need to go have a look. At the Maryland entrance, you get a closer view of the falls and at the Virginia location, while you can see the falls, it is at a higher distance.

Here are some pictures from our shoot below.

This beautiful couple was understandably nervous, so we had a lot of fun trying to warm them up. Even Eddie and I as photographer’s are nervous in front of the camera! It did not take them long to get comfortable at all. And they really appreciated our artistic take on things. They allowed us to be us as photographer’s and appreciated our artistic take on things. That’s what we appreciate the most about our clients.
